The victims of riots of Sette Giugno 1919 were remembered on 5 June in Malta and in Gozo because of the Elections for the European Parliament on the 6th of June 2009. In Gozo, the celebration was held in Xaghra by the National and Regional Festivities Committee within the Ministry for Gozo. The tragic event is annually commemorated in Xaghra since one of the four victims, Giuseppe Bajada, hailed from Xaghra. Mgr Archpriest Carmelo Refalo celebrated Mass for the repose of all four victims. The congregation included amongst others the Hon Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo, Xaghra Mayor Mr Joseph Cordina and Mr Vincent Grech, Chairman of the National and Regional Festivities Committee - Gozo. Mr Ivan Attard on the organ animated the singing while Chev Jos M Attard animated Mass. At end of Mass the National Anthem was sung. From Xaghra Basilica those present moved to the end of Bullara Street where Bajada used to live and where a marble plaque fixed to his house is a reminder of the man.Chev Jos M Attard compered the celebration and read poems related to the occassion. Miriam Christine Borg provided the music and sang patriotic songs. Bouquets of flowers were laid below the plaque after which two trumpeteers from the Armed Forces of Malta, Jason Camilleri and Jason Borg sounded the last post. A minute's silence was observed and in the end the National Anthem was sung.
