17th May was the second and last day that the statue of St John Bosco was in Xaghra. The main celebration today was the 11.00 a.m. Mass for youths in the Basilica. Besides the anniversaries tied to the Saint, the Xaghra Scouts were also celebrating the first year of the Group's reactivation. They therefore took the opportunity to attend Mass in full force. Four of them with the colours of the Group led the procession from the sacristy and the Group Scout Leader accompanied the celebrants to the presbytery. Archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo, Chaplain of the Xaghra Scout Group, celebrated Mass assisted by Rover Scout Fr Jesmond Gauci. The day's Gospel reading was about love which is the basis of the Scout Movement worldwide. During the Homily, three scouts, Josmar Azzopardi, Daniela Sultana and Loraine Borg talked about their experiences after joining the Movement and how much they gained in their lives. The Group Scout Leader Vincent Vella then led the Scouts present in renewing the Scout Movement Promise. Seminarian animated Mass while the Schola Cantorum Jubilate Choir directed by its leader Ms Maroushka Attard animated the singing.
