Reaching the 80th anniversary of one's birth is a day to celebrate. And that was what on Sunday 22 February 2009, H.L. Bishop Nicholas Cauchi did at the Church of St Anthony the Abbot. Bishop Cauchi's birthday was anticipated by a few days as he was to turn 80 on March 2nd. He was joined by three other Xaghra parishioners who were celebrating their birthday, Mrs Michelina Hili (born on Valentine's Day, 14th February), Mr Saverio Sultana (born 20th February) and Mrs Theresa Xerri (born 22nd February) all in 1929. The Rev. Canon John Sultana left no stone unturned to give them a day to remember. Surrounded by relatives and friends they attended Mass celebrated by Bishop Cauchi. Co celebrating with His Lordship were Can Sultana and Fr Jesmond Gauci assisted by Deacon Rev Anthony Bajada. Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and offerings were all conducted by children of the three above mentioned celebrating senior citizens. Before Mass ended, Can Sultana presented all four 80 year olds with mementoes in the form of holy statuettes. After Mass, in front of the Church door, a birthday cake sporting the happy anniversary occasion awaited. All four celebrating their birthday were soon on hand cutting the cake to the applause of all those present amongst whom were relatives coming from the United States. To all four we wish them Ad Multos Annos. The young ones present too were happy to receive from the hands of the Bishop children's books about St Paul.
