After the triumphal entry of the Three Wise Men and manifestation in Victory Square, the Magi entered the Basilica of Maria Bambina paying homage to Baby Jesus by placing the Biblical Gifts in front of the High Altar above which was exposed the effigy of Baby Jesus. Seminarian Simon Cachia animated Mass which was sung by Canon George Farrugia. The Choir Schola Cantorum Jubilate under the direction of Ms Marouska Attard accompanied on the organ by Mr. Jean Paul Attard animated the singing. After the homily, the Magi went up the nave presenting the Mass offerings. Apart from the usual Mass offerings, they offered two cheques for Euro500 collected by children during the Novena masses and Euro 288 collected by Fr Christmas during his round on Christmas night delivering presents to children at home,one of the activitiesby the Ghaqda il-Milied fix-Xaghra.These funds were to benefit the street children of Calcutta and were received by Fr George Camilleri S.J. a Jesuit Missionary In India who hails from Xaghra. When Mass ended, the effigy of Baby Jesus was brought down from its place above the High Altar by Archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo who handed it to Seminarian Simon Cachia. The Mass animator then went to the steps leading to the Presbytery and Mgr. Archpriest led the ceremony in paying homage to Baby Jesus by kissing the effigy. He was followed by the Magi, the Page Boys, the President of the Ghaqda il-Milied fix-Xaghra, Mr. Victor Agius, and all members of the congregation young and old.
