Not long after the horses had arrived in Victory Square and the statue of Saint Anthony the Abbot placed inside the Basilica of Maria Bambina, the Dog Show kicked off. Dog lovers had been arriving long before the Show started. Over forty dogs of various race took part. It was Pierre Camilleri's difficult job then to judge them, decide the winner in each category and finally decide the Best Dog in Show. During the Show, Tony Grech was standing on stage, compering the event and in his usual inimitable way impeccably gave a clear view of all that was taking place, every now and then cracking it in light vein. Merit also goes to John Galea who was the official in charge of the whole proceedings. Tokens were finally presented to all participants by Local Councillors Carmen Bajada and Kevin Cutajar. The Mayor, Joseph Cordina had the last say presenting trophies to the winners and the Cup for the Best Dog in Show, Tal-Fenek, won by the dog's owner Joe Cini of Victoria. . This was one of the three activities organised by the Xaghra Local Council. The others were The Horse Parade and races for children held after the Dog Show.
