Evening Service started with Pontifical Mass by H.L. Bishop Mario Grech with the Chapter and Clergy of the Basilica concelebrating with him. Assisting the Bishop were the two Deacons Rev Anthony Bajada and Rev Richard N Farrugia. Mass started at 3.30 p.m., Michael Spiteri animating the proceedings. After the Homily, His Lordship blessed small paper bags filled with barley and small loaves of Sant'Anton which were to be handed to owners of pets and animals later on in the evening after the blessing of animals in St Anthony Square. The Choir Voci Angeliche under the direction of Grace Vella with Ronald Camilleri, the musical Director, on the organ animated the singing. When Mass ended, the procession with the statue of the Saint left the Basilica.
