Spectacle in Gozoon themorning of Sunday 2nd January 2011 as the feast of the Epiphany was celebrated in Xaghra.A coupledepicting Mary and Joseph carrying Baby Jesus made their way to their place in front of the Basilica.A shepherdleadinga lamb followed and after paying homage to Jesus he took his place next to them. From three different streets, 8th September Avenue, Triq 28 t`April 1688 and Triq il-Knisja, the Wise Men on horseback converged on Victory Square.They travelled wearing rich attire accompanied by pages carrying the three biblical presents, gold, incense and myrrh. In the Square, they saw thestar which was hanging from the roof of the Parish Offices.They followedit moving overhead across the Square until they arrivedin front ofthe manger where,one by one, theypresented the gifts and for a moment stayed prostrate in front of the Child.Started for the first time in Gozo last year by the Ghaqda Il-Milied fix-Xaghra with the full collaboration of the Archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo, it took a bigger dimension this yearwith a largecrowd watching the event. The Magi then entered the Basilica to attend the Celebration of the Eucharist.There they made the offerings at Mass.
