The tenth edition of the annual Live Crib is currently under way and can be viewed up to 2nd January 2011. The theme this year is œThe light shines in the darkness (John 1,5). The Guiding Light Group this year are celebrating its eleventh year in the making. The sole aim of this group, as always, has been to help youths and teenagers to come closer to understanding the Word of Jesus Christ. Christmas might have a different meaning today to what it was originally intended to celebrate. This day and age, Christmas has become commercialised and adapted to suit the comforts and new ideologies of the modern world. There are many social misgivings that the Christian believer today comes in contact with and which might side-track him from experiencing the wonder and joy of Christmas. However, one must note that it is essential that we should seek to answer the questions that wemight have in the light of our Lord. The beauty of Christmas is that the story of Christmas takes place everyday amongst us. We only need to open our eyes and then we can see it happening in front of us, in our children and in those who are in need. The 'The Guiding Light Group' aspires to send out the message of the joy of Christmas with the representation of the Live Crib. In this tenth edition, there is a change in the location of the Live Crib. In addition, there are also new sections which represent different themes from the previous years depicting actual activities that took place during Jesus's life. The Live Crib as usual is divided into sections, where visitors are able to see different characters in their natural environments typical of the Jewish society in the time of our Saviour Jesus Christ. The visitor views the wine makers, the bakery making the bread and women laundering clothes, the shepherds watching over their flock, the donkey and the ox next to the mangerwith Mary and Joseph guarding the new born Babe, different characters dressed in typical Jewish clothing along with a variety of animals, which together give life to the Crib and send out a Christian message to the public who come to visit. As usual the group has kept as the main focus the Holy Eucharist and thus visitors are able to see the trade of wine making and that of bread. Above all, the main aim of the group is to evangelise the true Christian message and to spread the joy that Christmas brings with it and be able to incorporate this joy into today's life and times. The Live Crib is located in front of the Jesus of Nazareth Church in Xaghra, Gozo and is open to the public for free on the following days: 24th December 2010 - 6.30pm to 8.00pm, 25th/ 26th December 2010, 1st/2nd Jan 2011 - 3.00pm to 9.00pm 30th December 2010 from 6.00pm till 9.00pm.
