The Feast of Christ King of all the Universe, was celebrated as usual on the last Sunday in November, this year on Sunday 25th of November. This year, coming so soon after the launching of the Year of The Faith by H.H. Pope Benedict XVI, it was very appropriate and symbolic it being held in Xaghra and near the Ggantija Temples, the place where our ancestors over 5,000 years ago where so full of faith in something supernatural that they built the magnificent world renowned temples to the gods. There they worshipped their gods and offered them sacrifices. In the presence of His Lordship Mgr Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo, this was re enacted by a group of young ladies and the priest of those days. This was followed by the arrival of St Paul in Malta and the conversion of the Maltese population to the Catholic Faith.
Many clergy and religious people led the sizeable seated crowd congregated in the area. All the adolescents from Gozo who next year will be anointed with the sacrament of Confirmation were present with their parents. The celebration started with the reading of Lessons and the day's Gospel. This was followed by the mime mentioned above to be followed by a message by the Bishop. After this message, these adolescents lit torches symbolizing the light of the Faith and carried them while they affirmed their faith in the Lord. Towards the end, benediction with the Blessed Sacrament was imparted. The Diocesan Youth Choir under the direction of Ms Dorianne Portelli accompanied by Mr Antoine Theuma on the organ animated the singing. Before closing the ceremony, His Lordship expressed publicly his appreciation for the high attendance by the public and paid tribute to the organisers.
