Xag]ra emigrants in Melbourne, Australia, held the Xag]ra Annual Picnic on Sunday 26 February 2012 at Brimbank Park. Thanks to Ms Antoinette Bajada, who sent the pictures and the report, we in Xaghra and other emigrants in other places can have an idea of the event:
Report by Antoinette Bajada :
We were surprised so many turned up as over one hundredpeople came.We were not expecting these numberssince it was 34 degrees Centigrade and windy. A Total Fire Ban for the day was in force as on Saturday it was 39 degrees Centigrade. It was hot and we surrounded the gazebo with screens which turned the wind into a nice breeze. After 5.00 pm, the temperaturecooled down andit was very pleasant, but at 7.30pm lightning and thunder started and we just had to run, pack up and leave the park. In fact on the way home, it thundered and rained really heavy and it didn't stop until Mondaymorning. Charlie Attard and Charlie Vella took all the meat and sausages home and brought them down nicely barbecqued for lunch. We had quite a variety of salads, coffee, tea, cakes and other sweet treats for all. The cakes and some of the salads were donated by some of the members. We had what was left for dinner too after 5.00 pm. Everyone was glad that they came down ignoring the weather forecast. We had bo``i competitions for both the men and the ladies. We played bingo and had a three prize raffle. Everything went very well. The park looked beautiful with green grass and onecan see doves (gamiem bit-toppu) inthe penultimatepicture.
Editor`s note: Whilst we are aware that Xaghra emigrants spread all over the world enjoy logging in here to have the latest news of their place of birth we assure them that we too enjoy having their news in their adopted lands and will be only too pleased to put their contributions on site. Thank all those who have done this so far. We are sure you have lately been seeing photos of better quality. This is thanks to Ms Michelle Said from Sydney who took the initiative to collect funds to buy a new Nikon 1300 digital camera. Contributions were made by several emigrants in Sydney with the Xaghra Association of Sydney graciously donating AUD400. Other donations came from Mr and Mrs Raymond Bigeni, Mr and Mrs Maria Cremona Donoghue, Mrs Carmen Borg, Mr Zaren Xerri, Mr Casimiro Sultana, Mrs Guza Mercieca, and Mr and Mrs Roy and Rose Cini. We thank them all heartily for their generosity. Finally we invite you to make more use of the guestbook with your feedback and/or messages.Thank you.
