As part of his Pastoral visit to the parish, Gozo Bishop, H.L. Mgr Mario Grech, visited the Church of St Anthony the Abbot. This Church, one of the oldest in Gozo, in existence in 1575 as confirmed in a report by Mgr Dusina, served as the Parish Church when Xaghra was created a parish on 28th April 1688. The Bishop's visit took place on Sunday 30th November 2014 when he celebrated the Holy Eucharist there. Co celebrating with His Lordship were Xaghra Archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo, Church Rector Can John Sultana, Deputy Rector Can. John Bartolo and Rev Fr George Camilleri S.J., ex missionary in India. The first one to present the Offerings at Mass was a boy who handed the Bishop an envelope with a sum of money collected by the children to help Christian children facing persecution in Iraq.
