The Society 'Christmas In Xaghra', (Ghaqda il-Milied fix-Xaghra), held its annual Crib Seminar on Sunday 30 November 2014. Artist Mr Paul Stellini was this year's presenter. He started showing how to make a miniature crib in a glass dome. He then turned to explain how to make use of jablo and chalk to make a crib. He gave a detailed description how to fix together pieces of jablo and cover them with chalk. Then he showed how to paint the jablo with various colours to make them look like stone and rock as found in the countryside. He also explained how to make a sculptured form of crib in a frame to hang on the wall.
Gozo Bishop Mgr Mario Grech, who was conducting a pastoral visit to the village, paid a visit accompanied by Xaghra Atchpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo. In a short speech he praised the efforts of the Society towards the crib, reminding those present not just of the artistic but also of the spiritual values of the crib saying that during the building of the crib the gospel would be being written again.
The seminar was held in collaboration with Ghajnsielem Section of the Ghaqda Hbieb tal-Presepju Ghawdex Malta. Among those present were officials from the 'Society Friends of the Crib Gozo Malta', from Ghajnsielem Section and also from Nadur Section. Once more an encouraging presence was recorded including enthusiasts from Malta.
The Society, Christmas in Xaghra was this year celebrating its Tenth Anniversary having been founded in 2004, the last year of Mgr Eucharist Sultana as Archpriest of Xaghra. Their aim was to help having the crib in each and every house and coordinate the many activities taking place during the festive season. When approached by the founding officials of the Society with their intention, Mgr Sultana gave his approval and promised to give the Society any assistance they would need from the Parish.
