The Second Pilgrimage in Lent took place today. As it does every year, it started from Nazzarenu Church to the Basilica. Prior to the pilgrimage, Mass was celebrated in the church dedicated to Jesus of Nazareth (In-Nazzarenu). Principal celebrant was Xaghra Archpriest, Mgr Carmelo Refalo assisted by the Parish Vicar Rev. Fr. Joseph Bajada; the Rector of the Church, Can Anthony Refalo Rapa; Mgr George Farrugia and Rev Fr Saviour Sultana. After Mass the pilgrimage started moving with the statue of Jesus fallen under the Cross. It attracts enormous devotion and, as every year, a large crowd followed. A dozen hooded parishioners followed the statue carrying wooden crosses in votive fulfilment. On the way, the Via Crucis, Way of the Cross with meditation of the Stations was recited, relayed to faithful following via public address system. On arrival at the Basilica, the pilgrimage ended with benediction imparted with the Holy Eucharist. The weather was good, cool and calm.
