Sr Rita Soiteri and Sr Ignazia Said, both from Xaghra, joined the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on 2nd January 1963. On 3rd August 1965 they both took their Professional Vows. On Sunday 12th July 2015 Solemn Mass in the Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady, Xaghra, was celebrated in thanksgiving on their Golden Jubilee as nuns, They were accompanied by Sr Giulitta Dalli, Mother Superior of the Franciscan Community at Nazzarenu. Mgr Archpriest Carmelo Refalo assisted by Canon Joseph Sultana celebrated the Holy Eucharist. Sr Rita Spiteri was born on 25th April 1940, the daughter of the late Joseph and Christine Said. Sr Ignazia Said was born to Ignazio and Vincenza Said on 15th December 1939. Both joined the Congregation on 2nd January 1963 and fifty years ago, on 2nd August 1965 they both took their Professional Vows. In 1966 Sr Rita started her mission in Adelaide, Australia until 1989 when she moved to Queensland continuing her mission there and where presently she is Mother Superior of the Franciscan Community of Warragong, New South Wales. Sr Ignazia spent three years in Queensland, London and Italy. Back in Malta, for fifteen years she was assigned work looking after the elderly at the Community Home in Mosta. Finally she returned to Gozo spending three years at Nadur followed by six years in the convent in Qala and then ten years at the Bishop's Seminary where she was the Mother Superior. She is now posted at the Casa Madre in Victorial ending a hand wherever needed. To both Sr Rita Spiteri and Sr Ignazia Said our Congratulations and AD MULTOS ANNOS.
