When H.L.Mgr Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo, ended the Pastoral Visit to the Parish, the only place he had not visited was the cemetery since restoration works were being undertaken on the old part of the cemetery where the victims of the Plague of 1814 and the outbreak of Cholera in 1837 were buried. The burial place of the victims of the Cholera having been finished, on Monday 24th August 2015, His Lordship celebrated Mass near the niche at Sellum overlooking the cemetery and the capital of Gozo, Victoria. He was assisted by Mgr Carmelo Refalo, Xaghra Archpriest, Mgr Eucharistic Sultana, Archpriest Emeritus, Mgr Anthony Refalo, Canon from the Cathedral Chapter, Can. John Sultana, Rector of the Church of St Anthony the Abbot, Fr Joseph Bajada, Parish Vicar and Deacon Mario Curmi. Before Mass started, the faithful gathered, recited the prayer of the Rosary. In a short address at end of Mass, Archpriest Refalo thanked all those involved in the works carried out during the last two years, Mr Mario Caruana animated the singing. After Mass, the celebrants went down the steep road in procession to the cemetery followed by the faithful present. Before the blessing ceremony, Mr Joe Bonello who designed the layout described each section representing various stages in life until ending in the resting place. His Lordship then blessed the revamped cemetery where the Cholera victims where laid to rest.Not yet rated
