On Sunday 9 April, Xaghra Parish joined the Universal Catholic Church in celebrating the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, Palm Sunday. This day opens the Holy Week and it is dedicated to Youth. At 09:15hrs Archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo left the Basilica leading the procession. Youths took an active part carrying the Cross. Passing through upper Shaft Street and part of Bullara Street, the procession stopped at the crossroads in Church Street where families with children and youths were waiting. Mgr Archpriest sprinkled Holy Water on the congregation and olive sprays.Can John Sultana then read an extract from the Scripture and the procession then started moving up Church Street to Victory Square followed by all those present. The Parish Guitar Group sang along the way. Arriving in front of the Basilica, Mgr. Refalo knocked on the closed door which then opened and everybody moved into the Basilica for the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Photos Noel Camilleri
