On a calm Sunday morning, Palm Sunday was celebrated in Xaghra on 9th April. At 09:15hrs Mgr Carmelo Refalo, Xaghra Archpriest left the basilica in procession. Passing through Shaft and Bullara Street, stopping at the crossroads in Church Street, families with children clad in Jewish attire and holding olive sprays were waiting. Mgr Archpriest then sprinkled Holy Water on the congregation and the olive sprays.Can John Sultana then read extracts from the Scripture. The the procession then started heading for the Basilica. Taking part were young people carrying the image of Christ crucified. The Holy Eucharist was then celebrated bringing the first event of Holy Week to an end. Photos courtesy Mr Manny Buhagiar.
