The Novena for Christmas 2008 started on Monday 15th December. Novena Masses are held in all churches of Xaghra. In the Basilica two Masses are held, one at 6.00 a.m. for children and the second at 6.00 p.m. for students and adults. This year's theme of the Novena is the shepherds; what they went through before and when Jesus was born. Each day sends a message. The first Novena Mass was celebrated by Can. Joseph Sultana assisted by the Rev. Deacons Joseph Curmi and Richard N Farrugia. Today's theme was how the shepherds kept vigil guarding their flocks of sheep so that none got lost or was taken away from them. Likewise we should be on guard all the time not to lose Jesus or allow anybody to take Him away from us. Symbolising this, six young girls carried lit candles and moved in front of the Bible carried by Rev. Deacon Joseph Curmi from the main door up the nave to the High Altar where they placed the candles. Rev. Deacon Richard Farrugia delivered the sermon. Ms Maria Attard animated Mass whilst the guitar Group and Mr Ivan Attard on the organ animated the singing. Full daily programme of the Novena and all functions in Maltese can be found on the Calendar. Click on What's On Today on the Home Page.
