The congregation attending Mass at the Church of St Anthony the Abbot this Lent did not just hear the Bishops` Pastoral Letter being read out but also saw Mgr Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo, on video delivering it. A screen put up in front of the altar made this possible. The screen was removed after the bishop finished reading the Pastoral Letter. Another event in the program for Lent was the annual Pilgrimage with the statue of Christ crowned with thorns known better as the Ecce Homo. This was scheduled for Friday 22nd February but because the pilgrimage from Nazzarenu Church with Christ the Redeemer on Friday 15th February had to be postponed to that day, the one from St Anthony the Abbot Church was transferred to Friday, February 29th. However, although the weather was good, it was not to be as the pilgrimage had to be cancelled. It was scheduled to leave the Church at 5.45 p.m. for the Basilica passing through 28th April 1688 Street and crossing Victory Square. However as the latter was not passable that evening this year`s pilgrimage had to be skipped. Pictures show the statue still inside the Church of St Anthony the Abbot during the 10.00 a.m. Mass on Sunday 2nd March. The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Canon John Sultana, Ms Assunta Bonnici reading the Lessons. Prior to Mass, Can Sultana and Ms Bonnici led the congregation in reading the Psalms.
