Xaghra Parish » Gallery » Randan 2008 » 21 MAR 08 GOOD FRIDAY PROCESSION return to Basilica

The procession on Good Friday is the longest in Xaghra making it imperative that the route as well be the longest. In fact, after leaving Victory Square, it goes along 28 th April 1688 Street crossing St Anthony Square, St Joseph Street, Bullara Street and January Street before reaching back to Victory Square to enter the Basilica, a route approximately 1.5 km long. And that is also the length of the procession as within minutes of its rear leaving the Square, the front arrives back to start its return into the Basilica. Many people stay on and others arrive to watch procession when it will be more compact and more than one statue will be in the square. With a full moon lighting the sky, those present enjoyed the spectacle in spite of the biting cold at night. Many would return again on Easter Sunday afternoon to watch the Easter open air drama presentation followed by manifestation with the statue of the Risen Christ.
