The pilgrimage from Nazzarenu Church to the Basilica with the statue of Jesus under the Cross, postponed from the previous week because of bad weather, took place on Friday, 22 February 2008 in kinder weather. The evening was calm and mild, not wet and as cold as the previously prevailing weather. Mass was celebrated at the Nazzarenu Church starting at 6.00 p.m. with Mgr Lawrence Sciberras being the main celebrant. He was deputizing for the Archpriest, Mgr Carmelo Refalo, who was conducting the Annual Lenten spiritual retreat in Malta for young people from the Vocational Centre of Xaghra. Concelebrating were Can. Anthony Refalo Rapa - Church Rector, Can. Julian Refalo Rapa; Fr Saviour Sultana and Fr Joseph Cini. The singing was animated by a three guitar group. After Mass, the pilgrimage left the church led by altar boys and headed towards the Basilica. A group of men from the Nazzarenu community carried the statue of The Redeemer. A sizeable crowd of devotees followed. Along the route, the Way of the Cross was recited. In the Basilica, Benediction with the Holy Eucharist was imparted at the end of the service by Can. Julian Refalo Rapa.
