For five days, from Monday 25th to Friday 29th February 2008, married couples flocked to the Basilica to attend Lenten Sermons delivered by Fr Charles Tabone O.P. The attendance exceeded all expectations and all space avilable in the Church was taken up every evening. The accompanying pictures were taken on Thursday, 28th February. Mass was said by Fr Charles Tabone O.P. starting at 6.30 p.m. Concelebrating with him were Archpriest Carmelo Refalo, Can Julian Refalo Rapa and Fr Jesmond Gauci. Archpriest Refalo read the Gospel. Before starting the sermon after Mass, a video presentation of the study of family life was presented. The main role in the play was the popular actress Gemma Portelli, who recently passed away. Fr. Tabone invited the congregation in joining him in prayers for the repose of her soul. During the presentation, Seminarian Mark Bonello went round collecting contributions from the congregation in aid of the Gozo Seminary. This was followed by the sermon. When the sermon was over, Archpriest Refalo thanked the congregation for their generosity in contributing Euro 1460 in aid of the Seminary. Arrangements were made for children who had no one to look after them while their parents attended the sermons. These were left at the Female Catholic Action Centre where they played and enjoyed themselves under the care of ladies engaged in voluntary work for the Parish.
